About the Position

The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for the timely verification of medical insurance benefits through phone & online access of private insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid to obtain benefit information.   Determines insurance benefit compatibility with Pine Creek Medical Center (PCMC) procedures. Responsible for coordinating with patients via the Hospital and Scheduling staff, regarding their insurance benefits, and any patient financial responsibility.  Completes data entry and/or appropriate forms to document patient's benefits coverage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Two to three years of insurance verification (managed care, commercial, MCR and MCD) in a hospital for surgery.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
  • Basic typing and keyboarding experience.  Familiarity with computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities.  Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.  
  • Demonstrate effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
  • Medical terminology CPT and ICD-10 knowledge – calculation of patient financial responsibility, preferred.
  • Meditech proficiency preferred.
